Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. They are small titanium posts that osseointergrate (join) with the bone of the jaw or skull. They are designed to provide a foundation as a natural tooth root would, & are used for replacing teeth. Dental implants can be used for supporting a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge or denture.

Evaluation for Dental Implants

If, like many others, you feel implant dentistry is the choice for you, we ask that you undergo a dental/radiographic examination and health history. During these consultation visits, your specific needs and considerations will be addressed by either Dr Strauch or by a Periodontal Surgeon referred by our practice. Your questions and concerns are important to us and our team will work with you very closely to help make your procedure a success.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are metal anchors, which act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for the artificial replacement teeth.

For most patients the implant process involves two different stages. The first stage consists of the placement of the implant & this is commonly done by the Periodontal Surgeon. This needs to osseointergrate (join) with the jawbone. This may take two to six months, during which time you have a root cap covering the site

If the site is visible, it can be covered by a temporary denture allowing you to smile.

After the implant has joined to the jaw bone, the second stage begins, where Dr Strauch starts the custom fabrication of the final structure (crown, bridge, denture etc).

Dr Strauch will take an impression. This is a painless process not even requiring numbing or anaesthesia. After a few days the custom made tooth or structure can be attached.

The entire procedure start to finish may take between four to eight months, during which time most patients do not experience any disruption to their everyday lives.
