Infection controls and universal precautions protect both patients and staff alike. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control — you, your dentist, and of course the dental team. The basis of a good and safe dental practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with Dr. Strauch if you wish to be informed regarding the measures used.
These protocols include but are not limited to:
- Disinfectant hand soap
- Gloves, face masks & eye protection
- Chemical disinfection of countertops and surfaces
- Sterilisation of all equipment before every use, plus recording every sterilisation cycle
- Disposable materials – single use only
All reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces are sterilised. We use a Class B autoclave, which conforms to the highest Australian Standard. This is a device that kills bacteria and viruses by a combination of steam, heat and pressure.
The best defence against disease is information, thus the more you know the better off you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you understand about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel.
